Illness Strikes

We have been really fortunate that Camden is a healthy little guy.  Other than the reflux issue that was corrected early on, he has not been sick once.

All that changed early last Friday morning when he woke up with a very poopy diaper at 3:45 am.  He NEVER has poopy diapers through the night and that alone should have clued me in that something was wrong.

He felt hot, really hot.  I gave him some advil and we settled back in to sleep.  There was another icky diaper before I left for work, but at this point I assumed his molars might be coming in and his gums were bothering him.

When I got home from work on Friday he was still hot, his temp was 39.2 C and he was not himself at all.  For the rest of the weekend his temperature remained high, even after giving him advil and a warm bath.  He sat in my lap or was rocked in my arms for the majority of the weekend.  We made sure he drank plenty of juice, water and milk and he nursed constantly.  He didn't have any appetite at all and that worried me, because I am always worried he is hungry.

When his temperature dropped a little he would slide off my lap and find his teddy to cuddle with.  I knew we would have about 30 minutes of this "feeling better" before he was in my lap cuddling and nursing again.  That's when I would run to the bathroom for a pee break :)

His fever finally broke late Sunday night and Ron took him to the Doctor on Monday to be sure everything was ok.  A little rash had formed on his back but the Doctor said it was from the fever and not to worry.

On Tuesday the rash was much worse and covered his back, neck, cheeks, belly and groin.  I started to look online and I am pretty sure he had Roseola, even though the Doctor didn't come right out and say so.

Today, the rash is almost gone and he seems to be bouncing back.  Hopefully he will be his happy self again by tomorrow when his Grammie arrives for her visit.

Here are some pics of the rash:

It looks like it would be very itchy but he didn't seem bothered by it at all, thank goodness.

I am so thankful for a healthy child!  This fever and rash caught us off guard, hopefully Cam won't be sick again for a while.
